Barb Skogen: Strength That Carries Forward
Dec 12, 2025Barb Skogen is the kind of person whose strength doesn’t announce itself — it’s felt. In conversation, in consistency, and in the way she shows up for the people around her, Barb embodies what it means to live with intention, grace, and quiet determination.
Outside the studio, Barb enjoys reading — both on her Kindle and holding an actual book in her hands. She loves going out to dinner with her husband, Dave, meeting friends for lunch, and spending time shopping for clothes and décor while keeping an eye on new trends. Family is central to her life, and as she welcomes a new generation — now a proud great-grandmother — Barb has embraced a powerful truth: generational health is generational wealth. Staying strong isn’t just about her; it’s about being present, capable, and energized for those who come after her.
When Barb joined NorthStar, she was navigating the very real challenges that come with aging — changes in strength, balance, posture, and confidence in her body. What made the difference wasn’t chasing quick fixes, but learning the power of consistency. Barb strongly credits consistency as the single biggest lesson she’s learned, and she specifically points to Konner for reinforcing just how essential it is.
She now views training the way she views maintaining a well-run vehicle: your body needs regular upkeep to stay in peak condition. That mindset shift changed everything. Workouts became something she looks forward to — not something to push through. She values the environment deeply: the laughter, the smiles, the encouragement from staff and fellow NorthStars that make the studio feel like a place of renewal rather than pressure.
Physically, Barb has seen dramatic improvements. She attributes NorthStar’s proven method to her increased strength, improved balance, stronger core, and better posture. She’s more conscious of standing tall, moving with confidence, and trusting her body again. Just as important, she’s strengthened her mind — reinforcing the belief that growth is always possible.
Barb’s journey is a reminder that strength is not about age — it’s about commitment. By following the process and showing up consistently, she has built a foundation that supports not just her own life, but the lives of those who depend on her.
Barb and her husband have had a HUGE impact on La Crosse and communities around the state. Barb, the contributor often behind the scenes, has demonstrated that when you tune your body up physically, you stay physically and mentally strong and be in optimal health and shape, at any age. And it is her example inspired her husband Dave to take on his own Northstar journey. Her kind and generous heart and spirit embody what it means to be a Northstar.
That is generational health in action. And why with the gains she has made and the impact she has had on our community, we are honored to place her on our Northstar Wall of Fame. Congratulations, Barb!
